Let's get to know each other

María Alejandra Flores, psychotherapist

Hi, I'm María Alejandra!

Thank you for being here. I'm a psychotherapist. I trained in cognitive behavioral therapy and schema therapy, and over the years I have been strengthening somatic work in my clinical practice.

Today my approach is integrative. I help you discover how what you think and feel is reflected directly in your body and in the way you relate to life. My aim is for you to learn to hold the emotions your mind learned to suppress over time, which, stored in the body without being processed, now show up as an inner insecurity. Because when we fight an emotion, it gets stuck; when we meet it with curiosity, it moves and shows us something we needed to see. And by understanding it, we can transform that place with updated information, so the body stops living in the past and begins to respond from the present.

I see therapy as a safe, collaborative space where you can pause, look inward and understand more deeply what is happening to you.

What fulfills me most is supporting people as they reconnect with themselves, recognize their inner resources and move forward with more authenticity and confidence.

My story
The path I have walked

I came to psychotherapy through my own process of searching and healing.

Through different practices I began to recognize my own early wounds and the beliefs that formed around them (a path that is still transforming). I learned to observe the responses that once protected me but that I no longer needed, and I understood the importance of caring not only for the mind but also for the body, where the impact of stress and difficult experiences is often held.

Over time, this personal process became the foundation for accompanying others. Today my work is to help people live with more presence, coherence and fulfillment.

What I often help with

Every path is unique, but you are not alone on it.

I especially work with people going through relationship difficulties, major changes, a sense of disconnection, loneliness, emotional insecurity or patterns that seem to repeat again and again.

01

Insecurity in relationships

When a partner's distance stirs up the fear of losing the bond, a need for reassurance, rumination or the feeling of not being enough. We explore your attachment experiences to build a sense of security that comes from within and to reconnect with your own needs.

02

Repeating patterns

We often know rationally that something isn't good for us, yet still find it hard to respond differently. We approach these patterns with curiosity and compassion to understand the needs and protective strategies behind them.

03

People-pleasing and boundaries

When you say yes while meaning no, or find it hard to set limits with others and with yourself. Often, what looks like care comes from fear of the other person's reaction. We learn to notice that discomfort in the body, to stay with it, and to give yourself the care you usually give to others.

04

Self-criticism and perfectionism

When you feel you can't rest even when you want to, or that as soon as you achieve something you should have done more. We practice noticing that voice without being swept away by it, recognizing your progress and validating your efforts.

05

Stress and emotional overload

We often don't notice the stress we accumulate. We learn to recognize the signals of body and mind, build in pauses and movement that ease tension, and organize time and boundaries to recover energy.

06

Life changes and loneliness

When what held your life together changes and it becomes hard to recognize yourself in the new place. Together we explore the loneliness or disorientation this brings up, so that, at your own pace, you can find what gives you meaning and a sense of rootedness in this new stage.

My approach

Mind, body and relationship.

My approach brings together three dimensions that support one another, adapted to your needs and your stage of life.

The mindUnderstand
We identify the patterns, beliefs and protective strategies that keep repeating, using tools from cognitive behavioral and schema therapy.
The bodyFeel
Through somatic work, we learn to notice what is happening in the body and to regulate what you feel without being overwhelmed.
The relationshipConnect
The therapeutic relationship becomes a safe space to practice new ways of relating to yourself and to others.
Mind, body and soul form a single web. When one part heals, the whole system finds more balance.

How I work

The goal is not to stop feeling difficult emotions, but to understand what they are trying to show us.

We start with your story. Many of the ways we love, protect ourselves and react were learned in our earliest relationships, and they stay active today even when they no longer serve us. Understanding where they come from eases the weight of guilt and makes room for change.

There is no judgment here: we look at what is happening to you with genuine interest and kindness. We move at your pace, with no right answers or deadlines to meet, and what comes up in session gradually finds its way into your daily life.

To do this, we will use different tools depending on what comes up in each moment.

Does this sound like you?

Perhaps this feels familiar.

  • You notice someone seems more distant and right away you start wondering what has changed.
  • You know something isn't good for you, but in the moment you end up reacting the way you always do.
  • You're told everything is fine, but the calm lasts less than you'd like.
  • Something shifts in the other person and your first reaction is to wonder what you did wrong.
  • You're with people, living your life, yet sometimes you feel far away from yourself.
  • You get something you wanted and your mind is already on the next thing, or on what was missing.

If you recognized yourself in any of these, this space may be for you.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What can I expect from my first session?

An important question for me is: “Why now?”. In the first session we will explore together what has brought you to therapy at this moment in your life.

I will also gather some basic information to get to know you better: your family background, what is happening for you now and what you hope to get from therapy.

My way of working is close and warm, so it will often feel like a conversation. You don't need to prepare anything. We will start wherever you need to.

Availability and frequency of sessions

I work with people aged 14 and over.

I usually recommend weekly sessions. Depending on each case, they may be twice a month, or even twice a week if symptoms are severe. We can adjust the frequency as needed based on your progress and preferences.

The overall length of therapy will be tailored to address your concerns and goals. Sessions typically run 45–50 minutes long.
